Two Racers in Winter Harbor So Far This Week...
One was a racing "Laker", who frequently uses Winter Harbor as his personal "test track". A pretty fast boat!
The other headed towards out Moultonborough. What was interesting was the RPMs he'd reached. No truck motor could turn those revs without destroying itself. Is there a Winnipesaukee Ocean-Racer with a competent European engine out there?

He returned today, but never had it at top speed—turned around and went out to the Broads. The exhaust odor was unlike anything I'd experienced before. Perhaps some octane booster?
Here's a video of his going by (first few seconds). Forget the last views: I'd edited them out, but Photobucket left them in.

A "competent" European motor suited for boats, barring a diesel, does not exist at any reasonable price point (big Benz or BMW V8 (copycats!!)). Torque is where it as at for boats.News Hawk wrote:One was a racing "Laker", who frequently uses Winter Harbor as his personal "test track". A pretty fast boat!

Agreed,
While things may have changed in the automotive world, there is still no replacement for displacement on the water. Although I do wonder how that Ford Ecoboost would work in a marine application.
Aluminum block 213ci that produces 420 lb-ft torque @ only 2500 RPM

It wasn't a diesel...
They're fast enough, but not in the same class. They're the new Lotus.red_hill wrote:BTW, those WRX Subarus and Mitsubishi's must drive you euro-snob racers crazy

I did, I was floating right at your dock. There was a guy stacking wood that was looking kind of funny at me (not that I blame him)!!
I couldn't get in my Winni.com acct from my phone with your # but I was there for a while. It was kind of early and I would not intrude then

Oh darn, I wish I had known. Yes, he delivered wood and stacked it for us. I most certainly was up and wish I had seen you!
