ICE OUT DECLARED AT 7:46 AM today! I will definitely be there in 9 Days!!! on the lake in 10!!!! I should have a couple other boats with me. I will make sure to swing thru Winter Harbor to wave.

They have some very big lakes in Florida, it is just funny when the real estate listing says "lake front" and when you get there it is a pond. They call it a lake but when I show them the picture from my deck in Moultonboro they are suddenly very quiet.

This "lake" does have bass however. I walked up to the shore and there were (no kidding) at least a dozen beds with very good size bass on each nest. The realtor said they are called "crappys" down there. No one eats them so they are all catch and release. This allows them to grow massive. I will make sure to post when I catch my first. I definitely have to check on the laws regarding fishing permits etc. Maybe News Hawk can help me out with that?

I hope you can do more than wave! The problem is, I don't know if we will get our docks in this weekend or not. PM me when you know more. I really would hate to miss you!

Your realtor should stick to houses and not fish ID. Thanks for posting about Ice Out!!!!

I once considerated a property on Lake Istokpoga, which I think is Florida's third largest lake after Lake Okeechobee. The house was a one-story located on "Crappie Lane". (Pronounced Croppie).

Ir required a quarter-mile grassy and muddy slog to open water, so I took another look at my prospective address, and said "Naah!"

That's true. And Scandinavians and Brazilians are members of the human family.

I'm not sure about the good eatin' part.

Thank you News Hawk. I will always be cautious of gators. It is in a gated community that monitors the lakes closely for them. However one must always be cautious especially with my kids and dog. While there aren't many creatures up here that can tangle with my pup a gator would have no problem.

News Hawk: do you know if FL requires Fishing Licenses? I haven't started my research yet. Too busy trying to get my kids registered for schools, mortgages and insurance.

WHL - I will do my best. It is up in the air right now for I have two mechanics coming out with me (one flying in from PA) to make sure she is 100%. I also have a friend who just picked up a 31' sonic that he will be testing his first time. I am sure we may pick up a few more by then especially if the weather is good. So it may be difficult to get everyone in for a visit.

I know that lake, NH. My cousin used to live close to there and she took us there. It was very muddy with God knows what in it. But I didn't like it. When we were there it was in the process of being dredged. I guess a lot of fishermen use it though.

Xuxa is a "Brazilian", with her own TV kid's show. It's shown in the states, and I used to religiously watch
her The Xuxa Show!

(Although I couldn't understand a word of what she was saying...)

OK, sumr. Hope to see you. I do know that Fl. requires fishing licenses. You can get them at Walmart. I don't remember all the details but they can tell you at Walmart. I think if you are over 65 you don't need one, but that doesn't help you.

Thank you.. It looks like you do need one however there are exemptions / reductions for Florida Residents. So I may need one however my 5 year old does not. He was the one I was really curious about.

Yes looking forward to seeing you. If the weather is good we may have a fleet of boats joining us. It has begun to catch on! Everyone is itching to get out there this year!

This makes no sense. Why you trying to stir the pot. I tried to have a nice discussion with you but you decided not to participate instead you make not so hidden remarks trying to cause an argument.

You wonder why people get fed up and leave.

If he also carried on regular conversation pertaining to the actual topic we are discussing then I would see the humor, however he takes any and every opportunity for pot shots no matter how innocent he wants to make them seem.

Because where you're headed is infinitely more dangerous than Lake Winnipesaukee.

Look what was found recently, and reported today at FATP:

"This was a few years ago. And it was very heavy and water logged. Just the tip was sticking out of the water, but we didn't give up!"

Lots of things to hit around Pistol Island. Not in your neck of the woods I see.

'Not my photo, but a nice view of The Ossipee Range.

As far as collecting debris off the lake in Spring, I don't think I've been beat on the weight—or bulk—of debris I've pulled out. I don't understand how new 2-by-10 PT lumber can end up in the lake—by the dozens.

Parrothead at FATP:

"One year I almost hit a bob house that was floating. All that I could see was the ridge line of the roof. We've also pulled dock sections, logs, a sail board. The dock section came in handy. We made a small deck in front of our shed with it. It's still there today."

Here's what I wrote in the same year as the above:

There is definitely more trash on the Lake this year than previous years.

It appears (to me) that:

1) "new" trash (plus redistributed old trash) is blown onto rocky shorelines after ice-out.
2) Lakeport allows a rise in lake level, floating the trash +
3) Boat wakes "shake" trash from shoreline.
4) A few days of calm waters permit trash to drift into open water -- away from the rocky shorelines, where it would normally be "trapped".

This problem was recycled during our cold and wet weeks of May, when the lake level went down temporarily -- then came back up -- releasing more trash. Without having checked Lake Winnipesaukee gauges, I'd say there were two "highs" in the lake level in recent weeks.

Last night, after arriving home from a local restaurant, my dock was soaked -- not from rain, as there wasn't any -- but likely from one or more big wakes. The downside was that I had been using the dock to sun-dry chunks of driftwood that I had recovered last week and some of it may have been "liberated" by the boat wake(s).

Oh well. Rolling Eyes

BTW: Dried-out chunks of oak and maple driftwood makes great firewood. The "liberated" dimensional lumber from dock-building (and mooring markers) can be split to make tinder."

Funny that I should use the word, redistributed before it became a "new pursuit" for an entire nation.

Don't know the name of the hill but the picture looks to be shot from the neighborhood of pistol island. If that is correct that is the hill close by Abeniaki Tower. It would be the hill on your right as you cross into Melvin Bay going north. (My best guess) Copps Hill Maybe?

Copp's would be my guess also. What a spectacular view from that location! Shocked

If you can see Pistol Island from Abenaki Tower, you should be able to see the Abenaki Tower in this photo.
